The 5th annual Ice Fishing Derby is back Saturday, February 22, 2025 from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm. Whether you're a seasoned pro or just testing the waters, this event is for the entire family. Join us for a day of fun, friendly competition, and winter adventure on the ice! Open to All Ages!

 

Location:

• Lemke Lake located at the corner of Doran Road and Barron Canyon Road in Laurentian Valley (62 Barron Canyon Road)

Cost:

• FREE to attend including hot dog lunch and hot beverages provided at no charge for registered participants!

Requirements to Participate:

• must pre-register (registrations will open soon, stayed tuned)
• pre-registration helps event organizers plan for food
• must have fishing equipment & own seating (event organizers can drill fishing holes if needed)
• must have fishing licence if you are 18 years old and over or under 65 years old (may purchase one day fishing licence)
• if you are under 18 years old or 65 and older you must have a government-issued identification with you that includes your name and date of birth, at all times while fishing (identification acts as your licence to fish if you belong to one of these age ranges)

Event Details:

• Date: Saturday, February 22, 2025
• Time: 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
• 10:00-11:00 am (check in at LV tent and fishing spot set up) 
• 11:15: Introduction to the Derby and Ice Fishing Procedures
• 11:30: Derby starts
• 12:30 – 1:30: Free BBQ hot dog lunch (including snacks, water, and juice)
• 2:00: Derby ends
• 2:00-2:30: Presentation of prizes to winners
• Lake Entrance: Path off Barron Canyon Road
• Parking: only along Barron Canyon Road and additional parking at Shaw’s Lumber yard (absolutely no parking on Doran Road due to snow plow removal)
• Upon arrival we ask everyone to check in at the LV Tent that will be set up on the lake located close to the entrance of Barron Canyon Road
• Porta potty will be on site

Event Guidelines:

• catch and release
• dress accordingly for no shelter and possible slush (proper boots)
• you are encouraged to bring your own scoops and augers, however event organizes will drill holes if preferred
• bring own bait (worms suggested)
• you may bring a portable ice hut for shelter (shelter will not be provided)
• only one line per angler
• may consider bringing a shovel if you want to clear your fishing area (some years have had a good layer for snow over the ice)
• you may measure fish that are caught at anytime during the derby at measurement station headed
• your largest catch will be recorded as your entry in the derby, however each catch will enter you into a draw for a door prize!
