On July 27^th, 2024, Laurentian Valley Township is hosting it’s 8th Annual Junior Gardeners contest at Stafford Park during the annual Party in the Park Event.  The competition provides youth the opportunity to choose either a flower or a vegetable to take home and nurture it for the summer. The contest highlights the township’s tagline “Grow with Us” and was chosen as a means of giving youth of the Township and neighbouring communities an opportunity to learn a new skill. Alastair Hugli of Sunset Nursery Garden Centre & Greenhouse is once again set to judge this year’s competition.

TO ENTER THE COMPEITION:

Children ages 16 and under can participate in the competition by registering and picking up a plant for free at Sunset Nursery Garden Centre & Greenhouse (located at 2177 Greenwood Rd) from May 27 to June 10, 2024.

•       Junior Gardeners Competition - Awards Ceremony at Stafford Park located at 641 Third Ave South during Stafford Park’s “Party in the Park” event
• Plant Drop Off – 10:00 – 10:30 am
•       Judging 10:30 – 11:00 am
•       Awards Ceremony 11:00 – 11:30 am
•       BBQ Lunch – Noon (Free for Competitors)
•      Junior Gardeners can stay after the awards ceremony and enjoy a few hours of play! Special features include a bouncy castle, Laurentian Valley fire department slip and slide, LV Fire Truck on site, BBQ lunch, youth prize draw, splash pad, slushies and playgrounds.

We look forward to see all the competition entries at the awards ceremony at the end of July!

All proceeds of this event will be re-invested back into the Park!

The event will kick off with the judging of the 7th Annual Junior Gardeners Competition, a competition that was open to all children who reside in and outside the Township. Youth ages 16 years of age or younger, put their green thumbs into action by trying to grow a plant over the course of a month. A big thank you to Sunset Nursery Garden Centre & Greenhouses, in particular Alastair Hugli, who will once again judge the competition. Kids had to pick up their plant and register by June 10, 2024 to take part in the competition. This year we have 155 kids registered for the competition.

How to participate in tournament/vendor market:

Pickle Ball Tournament:

•  $25 registration fee per team (payment by E-Transfer
• Mixed Teams (men and women)
• Doubles (2 per team)
• 2 Age Categories: 19-49 years old and 50+ years old
• 2 Competitive Levels: beginners (level 2.25-3) and competitive (level 3-4)
• Guaranteed at least 3 game
• Top 2 team championship per division
•  4 Divisions with a cap at 4 teams per division! First come first serve!
• Must have own paddle
• Prizes for Winners of each division!
• Starts at 12pm at Stafford Park located at 641 3rd Ave South

Vendor Market:

• Pre-registration required by July 19, 2024
• $10 per vendor (small businesses, crafters, local producers, etc.)
• Must have own table, seating and shelter/tent
